Project Title: Innovative Large-Scale Production of Affordable Clean Burning Solid Biofuel and Water in Southern Africa: transforming bush encroachment from a problem into a secure and sustainable energy source

Under this European Union (EU) funded project, Botswana Institute for Technology, Research, and Innovation (BITRI) seeks services of field assistants for data collection.

Location: South-East, Kweneng and Kgatleng Districts

The main objective of the Market Assessment is to assess the potential market for solid biofuel produced by the Superheated Steam (SHS) process from bush and other woody biomass in the domestic household sector and the commercial sector. This will identify factors influencing consumer behaviour and market acceptance of this fuel. It will identify and engage strategically with key value chain actors in the three participating African countries, across rural, urban, and peri-urban areas. This will create local demand and markets for the solid biofuel produced by SHS processed biomass.

The Botswana Institute for Technology, Research and Innovation seeks to recruit highly motivated, energetic persons to fill five positions of Field assistants for a Market Assessment data collection.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• Timely collection (enumeration) of data from all the selected households and market sector in the assigned areas within the agreed period.
• Adhere to quality standards as prescribed for data collection operation procedures and processes.

REQUIREMENTS

• Fluency in Setswana and English.
• Demonstrated computer literacy.
• Good interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work to strict deadlines.
• Administer all questions and record information of all respondents. Also, ensure to obtain complete and accurate answers and record them correctly and accordingly.
• Ability to prepare brief notes on problems encountered and report them daily.
• Be available for the duration of the data collection period.

COMPETENCIES

• Experience in research, enumeration or data collection activities would be an added advantage.
• Sound written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent Communicator.
• Organised and Detail-oriented.
• Time management.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelors’ degree qualification. A Masters’ degree would be an added advantage.
