Key Responsibilities
- Conduct individualised pre-operative assessment and verify consent, site marking and the surgical safety checklist
- Perform treatments as ordered by the surgeon accurately and in a timely manner
- Document assessment findings, interventions and progress accurately and maintain confidentiality
- Provide scrub and circulating (runner) support during procedures, maintaining strict aseptic technique and accurate counts
- Manage the patient at post-operative and recovery stages, including wound and drain care and pain management
- Participate in the infection-control programme and analyse data in post-operative management
- Provide anaesthetic support: assist the anaesthetist with induction, monitoring and recovery
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution.
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana with a valid practising certificate.
- BLS/ACLS certification; experience in an operating-theatre environment.
- Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate
- Evidence of theatre / peri-operative nursing experience
- Post-basic qualification in peri-operative / theatre or anaesthetic nursing (desirable)
- Previous staff-management experience (desirable)
