Responsible for developing and leading underground/surface geotechnical and mine development and production teams, providing expertise and applying geotechnical and mining principles to underground design challenges and surface infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement best practices in geotechnical and mining engineering.
- Assist with mine designs, dewatering, and mining operations to ensure safety and achieve business objectives in terms of development metres, production tonnages, ore quality and plant throughput.
- Supervise geotechnical/geological inspections, mapping, and documentation.
- Supervise and work with drilling and geotechnical instrumentation installations.
- Collect, process, analyze and model geotechnical/geological characteristics of the various rock mass for support of the surface and underground mine.
- Process, analyze, and model data to understand the rock mass and its response to mining for purposes of excavation stability, design optimization, mine performance, and design compliance.
- Oversight of geotechnical and geological database management.
- Oversight of geotechnical/geologic mapping, sampling, monitoring, and reporting to support site needs and corporate obligations.
- Assist in the preparation of the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly development and production reports.
- Responsible for implementing and enforcing the requirements of the Ground Control Management Plan.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
- Oversight of underground engineering teams and technical teams (ventilation, dewatering, mine survey, etc.).
- Enforcing Botswana Mining Regulations through monthly audits and daily visits.
- Developing extraction methodologies for copper ore.
- Preparing monthly executive reports.
- Developing strong business cases for upgrades in conjunction with finance teams.
- Developing and execution of short-, medium- and long-term strategies.
- Formulating annual operating and capital budgets.
- Lead Life of Mine Planning, development planning, and mine planning.
- Put in place KPIs and performance reviews for all underground and surface project teams.
- Overseeing all operational plans.
- Oversee preventative maintenance systems. Ensure optimized skills staffing.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering.
- Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency.
- MBA a pre-requisite and definite advantage.
- Minimum 20 years’ underground mining experience on large scale operations required.
- Minimum 10 years of senior management roles.
- Conventional and mechanized underground mining, Mechanized underground mine development and production non-negotiable.
- New underground mine development and commissioning into production.
- Ventilation experience required.
- Underground Blasting license.
- Technical communication and presentation skills required.
- Expert knowledge in underground mine engineering and design is required.
- Underground blasting.
- Underground infrastructure construction.
- Project management skills are preferred.
- Strong communication and team fostering skills required.
- Multi-disciplinary teams supervision.
- Underground support in mechanized and conventional mines.
- Knowledge of Underground Support Methods, base metal mining methods with copper being a definite advantage. Conventional and mechanized mining. ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and mining regulations.
