The mining services contract includes mine scheduling, drilling & blast, waste removal and limited ore mining. Applications are sought for the following position: –

Senior Safety Officer

Job Purpose

Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, the primary purpose of this role is to strategically lead the Health, Safety and Environment team in delivery of best practice Environment, health, safety, occupational hygiene and injury management/ prevention outcomes for the operation. You will provide leadership through coaching and mentoring of employees utilizing high levels of communication, engagement and influence.

Responsibilities

• Establish, lead and monitor environment, safety, health and occupational hygiene programs and systems
• Develop a robust management strategy for mitigating the environmental risks posed by operational activities to the wellbeing and health of the workforce and business partners
• Drive the continuous improvement of environment, safety, health and occupational hygiene practices
• Mentor a team of multi-disciplinary technical professionals to ensure optimal mining activities
• Maintain statutory obligations and compliance with mining safety regulations
• Oversee the management of workers compensation, injury prevention and injury management processes in conjunction with the Human Resources Manager
• Influence behavioral change through being

 

active within the operation, regular safety visits and promotion of the safe production leadership’ philosophy

• Ensure site compliance to the SHEQ Standards & Procedures
• Manage the site risk register

Minimum Requirements and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related technical field
• Minimum of 6-10 years’ experience in a Health, Safety and Environment in mining
• Including a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role
• Understanding of ISO 14001 and 45001 standards
• Cross-cultural communication skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills
