SHAFT SINKING CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM MANAGER – UMS Botswana (Pty) Ltd

VACANCY

UMS Botswana (Pty) Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) has undertaken an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase.
Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management.
We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidate to be considered for the below position in Letlhakane. Please note that this position is project based.
SHAFT SINKING CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM MANAGER (Ref. Kar_51)

JOB SUMMARY
To manage the construction program on a sinking project, which includes planning, production and operations, procurement, and to ensure that contractual obligations are met with regards to production, safety and quality standards within the required budget parameters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Project, operations, and budget control & management.
• People Management.
• Reporting.
• Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Mine Overseer’s Certificate or Engineering Degree/Diploma.
• At least 10 years’ experience in vertical shaft sinking.
• At least 5 years’ experience in the planning, construction, and commissioning of underground infrastructure: o Bulkheads o Ore silos o Conveyor belts o Crushers o Ore-pass tips o Sub-Stations
• At least 5 years’ experience in planning and execution of vertical shaft equipping and commissioning.
• At least 5 years’ experience in off-shaft Trackless Development.
• Knowledge of Vertical Shaft Muckers (VSM).
• Knowledge of mining standards and operating procedures.
• Working knowledge of and experience in risk management, strata control, industrial relations, quality management and health & safety management.
• A good understanding of health, safety and risk regulations and standards and working knowledge of the requirements of all the relevant Minerals Act & Regulations and OHS Act.
• Computer literacy in the Microsoft Office suite of programmes, including Teams.
• Knowledge and experience of project management as well as quality management method ISO 9000.

Advantageous:
• Project Management qualification or Mine Manager’s certificate (project-dependent).
• Project Management Professional (PMP).
• AutoCAD programme experience.
• 3D Modelling.
