Job Title: SPECIALIST UNDERWRITER – INSURE
Role Purpose:
To provide underwriting expertise to the Technical Underwriting Department by supporting the Sales Department in the fulfilment of client and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Price business in line with organisational underwriting and pricing guidelines.
- Apply underwriting expertise and sound judgment to assess risks and write profitable new business within delegated authority levels.
- Develop and maintain a profitable portfolio aligned with Company targets.
- Determine renewal terms, including appropriate premium levels and policy adjustments, in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Conduct quarterly and ad hoc profitability analyses for assigned portfolios and provide insights to management and Sales.
- Partner with Sales to support marketing initiatives and build strong relationships with brokers.
- Engage brokers on market appetite, submission quality, profitability, service standards, and product or underwriting changes.
- Collaborate with Sales to identify and pursue new sales and marketing opportunities.
- Promote the Company’s products through professional networks.
- Stay informed on industry trends and competitor activities.
- Provide analysis and recommendations to support business decision-making.
- Support the execution of the Company’s strategic objectives through effective underwriting and portfolio management.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Commerce, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- AIISA (Associate of the Insurance Institute of South Africa)
- Minimum of 5 years post qualifications experience in commercial underwriting
