Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications do I need to become a Workshop Clerk at a logistics company in Botswana?
Most employers look for a BGCSE certificate or equivalent, with additional training in stores management, records keeping, or logistics being an advantage. A certificate or diploma from institutions like ABM, Boitekanelo, or Botswana Accountancy College in supply chain or business administration strengthens your application. Computer literacy, especially MS Excel and Word, is usually essential.
What are the typical day-to-day duties of a Workshop Clerk?
You will maintain workshop records such as job cards, spare parts registers, fuel logs, and vehicle service histories. Duties also include ordering and issuing spares, liaising with mechanics and suppliers, and preparing reports for the Workshop Manager. Accuracy and timely filing are critical since fleet downtime depends on good record-keeping.
What benefits can I expect as a Workshop Clerk in Botswana?
Typical benefits include paid annual leave (usually around 15–20 working days per year), sick leave, and contributions to a pension fund as required under Botswana law. Many established companies also offer medical aid schemes, sometimes subsidised by the employer. Benefits vary by employer, so always ask during the interview stage.
What career growth paths are available for a Workshop Clerk?
With experience, you can progress to Stores Supervisor, Fleet Administrator, or Logistics Coordinator roles. Further studies in supply chain management, such as CIPS certification through local providers, significantly improve promotion prospects. Some clerks move into procurement or transport management within the same company.
How do I apply for this role and what do employers in Botswana look for?
Prepare a concise CV highlighting your education, computer skills, and any stores or administration experience, then apply via the company's email or recruitment portal as stated in the advert. Employers value attention to detail, honesty with stock and records, and knowledge of OHSE practices. Be ready to provide certified copies of certificates and references if shortlisted.
What is the work culture like for administrative roles in Botswana's logistics sector?
Workplaces tend to be hierarchical but collegial, with respect for supervisors and punctuality highly valued. Teamwork between drivers, mechanics, and admin staff is common, so good communication skills matter. Adherence to safety procedures and company policies is strictly expected, especially in workshop environments.
