  • Translates Divisional operational and financial performance measurements for all strategic projects and activities to Departmental level and monitors them to ensure that the Divisional strategic objectives are met
  • Monitors expenditure against budget, makes necessary adjustments to achieve set objectives and the reports on performance against budget to EXCO
  • Determines resource requirements for the implementation of approved plans, develops detailed budgets with input from Sectional Managers, and seeks budget approval from EXCO
  • Identifies and implements cost containment measures and projects for the Department to improve the Airline’s profitability

 

Service Excellence

  • Enhances customer experience and promotes the reputation of the corporation by ensuring that the department meets their performance standards and targets in order to meet the airline’s customers’ expectations
  • Maintains effective working relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers and service providers by ensuring adherence to service level agreements and contractual requirements

Internal Process Effectiveness

  • Drives the development and reviews the departmental policies, systems and processes to align with industry and the Airline’s strategy and to ensure optimization of resources utilization for the airline to fairly compete in the changing business environment
  • Keeps abreast with latest developments in Legal Services and recommends initiatives that lead to process improvement by applying acquired knowledge, skills and best practice
  • Monitors performance standards of the department and continuously strives to improve business process flow and turnaround times, takes necessary remedial action to rectify deviations

 

  • Coordinates the preparation of Board papers and administrative arrangements for Board meetings and attends Board meetings as Corporation Secretary ensuring the accurate recording of minutes
  • Follows up decisions of the Board and ensures that appropriate departments are made aware of Board decisions and the necessary actions required; follows up where required and reports General Manager on the progress in the implementation of Board decisions and directives

Operational Excellence

  • Leads in the establishment, prioritization of management projects/initiatives within a specified budget and the time frame to ensure that airline meets its operational and financial targets
  • Leads in the establishment of the Legal Services standards and the objectives to ensure set targets are met and that the department adheres to set safety and security standards
  • Develops and maintains the Legal Services Manual

 

Resources Utilization

  • Ensures that department has the tools and resources that enable them to respond effectively to any operational requirements and disruptions in a safe and secure manner
  • Approves and/or recommends resource requirements for the Department to the General Manager and deploys allocated resources efficiently, taking into account identified needs and priorities

Compliance with Statutory Requirement

  • Prepares and ensures the timely filling of all statutory returns and statutory requirements in terms of the Airline act and other relevant legislation
  • Provides legal advice and recommendations to the General Manager and the Board to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and to protect the interests and rights of the corporation at all times

 

Contract Negotiations & Agreements

  • Drafts and prepares legal documents including contracts and agreements and assist user departments on the preparation of agreements and contract negotiations
  • Ensures that the necessary bonds and securities are in place where appropriate, under lease agreements; maintains register of all bonds; leases and contracts and security of documentation

Regulatory Compliance & Conformance to Standards

  • Translates Legal Services conformance with IOSA standards and compliance with CAAB/ICAO/AOC regulatory framework and standards into departmental standards and ensures that the Operational Manuals are updated as and when the standards changes

 

Requirements, Education and Experience

Education: Degree in Law and admitted to practice in the Courts of Botswana
Experience: Minimum of 10 years working experience in corporate legal work, civil litigation and contract negotiations
