BCL was a nickel / copper mining and smelting company which operated for more than 40 years in the town of Selebi-Phikwe in the north-east part of Botswana. Following the liquidation of BCL in October 2016, the mine has been placed on care and maintenance, which is expected to last for some considerable time, while efforts are being made to try to dispose of the assets.
Subordinate Engineer (Superintendent – Hoists and Compressors)

Job Summary
Reporting to the Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements on maintenance and relevant operation of plant and equipment.
Assisting the Engineer in ensuring that all plant licences are up to date and any modifications of the plant are approved and amended on the licence by the inspector of machinery.
Managing operational, mechanical, electrical and instrumental requirements for all Hoists and Compressors.
Ensuring that all winders are adequately manned by Winding Engine Drivers with the required statutory licences.
Attending to breakdowns, ensuring they are immediately attended to and root-cause analysis is done.
Carrying out plans and liaising with other line managers on equipment/machinery and on major maintenance/overhauls/replacements.
Any other duties that may be reasonably required as assigned by the Team Leader – Mining (Engineer) and/or Liquidator.

Minimum requirements:
HND / Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Engineer (GCC) in charge of winders

Practical knowledge of:
Single and Double drum winders
Keope winders
AC and DC drives
Vertical Shafts
Decline shafts
Centrifugal compressors
