Statistics Botswana – Systems Developer

Statistics Botswana is a Parastatal Organisation established under the Statistics Act, 2009. The role of Statistics Botswana is multi – faceted and, as the pre – eminent agency responsible for the development and management of official statistics, its duties include and are not limited to; The collection, processing, analysis, publishing and disseminating of official statistics in areas such as, commercial and industrial activities, agricultural social, economic, environmental, energy, communications and household conditions.

Statistics Botswana is now seeking to recruit highly motivated, innovated, and experienced professional to fill the following position;

REF NO 5/2018: SYSTEMS DEVELOPER-PROJECTS,

FOUR (4) YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• Develop and implement the installation, upgrade and maintenance of systems for data collection, capture, cleaning and tabulation

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

• Ability to use statistical programmes/systems to analyse and evaluate economic data
• Knowledge of 1993 or 2008 System of National Accounts
• Knowledge of statistical methods, techniques and principles
• Knowledge of Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (COICOP) and International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identify system requirements based on user needs and continuously liaise with end users with a view to writing new or modifying current systems
• Recommend, design and implement system to support the technology requirements of Statistics Botswana (data capture, cleaning and analysis, including development of web-based instruments and mobile instruments for data collection)
• Observe, test and diagnose the systems

• Conduct security checks and reviews on the systems
• Undertake procedures to restore operations in case of system failures
• Install systems on work stations of the Data Management team
• Plan, implement and supervise systems maintenance activities
• Identify training needs on the application systems and organise training (in collaboration with Training and Certification division) for users as and when necessary
• Implement system backup procedures and participate in recovery operations in the case that all or part of the system is compromised

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or any other equivalent/ relevant qualification acceptable to Statistics Botswana

EXPERIENCE:

• At least five (5) years of progressive work experience in IT
• Experience in systems design and administration in multi-user environment

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
