Specification
Assist the Librarian in the provision of comprehensive library and information resources to support the information and knowledge needs of the Secretariat and its stakeholders.
Information and documentation services
Keep a record of information resources and documentations that must be added to the collection, acquired / procured, disposed of as per the retention schedule, and archived permanently
Renew and/or apply for new subscriptions and licences for information materials
Catalogue, label, index, classify, shelve/stack/store and maintain an inventory of information resources and documentation (print, audio-visual and electronic) as per established procedures and guidelines

Repair, rehabilitate and replace damaged materials, and weed out out-dated materials
Help users locate information resources and documentation required
Induct users on the use of the library and online catalogue
Register, issue and record returns of information resources and documents
Follow up with overdue lending
Help maintain the physical appearance and ease of use of the library, and monitor the resource centre to prevent theft or abuse

Keep records and prepare regular reports on utilisation and circulation statistics for analysis
Operate audio-visual equipment (laminating machine, printer, scanner, binder, copy machine etc.)
Search for SADC news from newspapers and other journals, and compile newspaper cuttings on SADC
Contact relevant stakeholders to acquire or procure information materials and documentation in order to maintain the Library up-to-date
Prepare orders and requisitions for the purchase of information resources
Keep a complete and updated electronic database of information resources

Research and adopt best practices in own specialised area of work, and maintain high level of knowledge in order to effectively undertake the duties of the post
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervising officer
Requirements
At least a Degree in Information or Library Management or related field from a recognised institution
Knowledge of library operations, procedures, systems and rules
Proficient in the use of computers and computer software relevant to the position
At least 5-7 years experience in a library or documentation centre
