Introduction

The Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) is a science and technology research institute established by the Government of Botswana. It is a parastatal under the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology. BITRI was established to undertake research, identify and or develop appropriate technologies in line with national priorities and needs of Botswana. BITRI invites suitably qualified applicants for the following position designed to provide the holder of a PhD qualification with additional research and scholarly training for a research career

Specification

This position offers exciting opportunities for broad research training in diagnostics. BITRI is working with collaborating partners in the development and provision of portable kits employing DNA biomarkers, bio-sensors and sequencing technologies. The successful candidate will work on a project that involves developing new and improved molecular diagnostic methods for Schistosomiasis. Research will be undertaken at BITRI and the University of Botswana with at least three months of the project spent at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom.

Requirements

A PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry or any health-related discipline. The PhD degree should have been obtained within the last three years.

Experience.

The ideal candidate must have:An interest in neglected tropical diseases.
hands-on laboratory experience.
Be able to work independently and on collaborative projects.
