Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain the physical condition of all the camps, and in conjunction with the General Manager, to schedule and implement a CAPEX programme, within the specified financial framework to develop the camps.
• Maintain the physical condition of the Maun office, and in conjunction with the General Manager, to schedule and implement a CAPEX programme for buildings, plant and maintenance equipment, vehicles and boats, computers and IT equipment, all radios and other forms of communication, all new building and improvement projects.
• Oversee and manage the successful and timeous completion of routine maintenance problems by the lodge in-house maintenance team.
• Manage and access the work completed by the in-house maintenance team & external technical contractors to ensure that work provided meets the quality standards required by the camps and safari operation.
• Monitor and coordinate the services performed by external contractors to ensure compliance with safety  & security requirements, quality standards, service agreements, warranties etc.
• Maintain the vehicles and modes of transport which includes: Maun office vehicles, all lodge vehicles & EIC boats and barges.
• Continually monitor the energy consumption and implement measures resulting in savings in energy costs.
• Monitor utility bills to ensure charges are accurate.
• Act as a liaison between the camps/safari operations and outside contractors on major projects.
• Ensure that all water systems are treated in order to prevent corrosion throughout the system.
• Ensure that all aspects relating to the Occupational Health & Safety Act are in line with legal requirements;  to ensure that all firefighting equipment is in good, working order and the alarm system is tested on a weekly basis.
• Maintain an adequate inventory of spare parts, tools and supplies at all times.
• Oversee the coordination and preparation of staff rosters to ensure adequate coverage in all maintenance areas according to occupancy.
• Ensure that all on-the-job training is recorded and maintained on an ongoing basis.

Directly responsible for the management & supervision of the maintenance team and indirectly responsible for the management & supervision of the camp’s groundsmen.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Previous experience in in a Safari operating environment beneficial.
• Minimum of 5 years proven experience in a similar position.
• Strong leadership skills to manage a team.
• The ability to maximise staff performance through training & coaching.
• Sound knowledge of departmental financial management, budgets and cost control.
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Computer Literacy.
