The Senior Manager – Grading Lab Operations oversees the GIA Grading Laboratory grading processes »n the Botswana laboratory, through the coordination of the pre-grading, grading and post grading functions Deliv­ers the expectations based on the laboratory operational goals, to drive operational excellence and people development so as to execute the lab’s operational strategy

Senior Manager – Grading Lab Operations has the following responsibilities:

•     Overseeing the lab operation to meet the production goals consistently, including planning, coordinating and managing resources to effectively deliver results

•     Assist the lab management with the budgeting process in order to understand the financial implication o.‘ the lab operations

•     Work with the first level leadership to focus their attention on operations and process adherence, to ensure that they consistently deliver high quality results in a manner that aligns with the values ofClA (Leadership. Integrity. Respect. Teamwork. Results)

•     Be actively Involved in managing the lab operations, managing changes (improvements, new processes, new services) and coaching the Supervisors on being better/effective first line leaders

•       Work with VP Lab Operations – EMEA and or designee to establish goals for the functions in alignment with the lab strategy, cascade these goals to the team and monitor their progress

•       Create an environment of professional development; take keen interest in developing people to perform their roles effectively Conduct performance evaluation and provide honest feedback

•       Ensure that company policies, procedures and legal guidelines are followed at all times

•       Ensure adherence to the processes and systems within the lab and continuously improve them to deliver better results, recommend innovation in product, services and processes

•       Proactively gain and share industry knowledge, technical skills and lab operation management knowl­edge required throughout the operations processes in order to effectively lead the teams to meet thei production goals

Education and Experience:

•       Bachelor of Science degree is required and an MBA would be advantageous

•       5 or more years related managerial experience in a lab/production environment

•       Proven experience in Diamond Grading and/or Lab operations

•       Diamond Grading and/or Gemology Diploma preferred

•       Proven knowledge and experience of the process/ continuous improvement methodologies.
