MEDICAL ASSISTANT – DEBSWANA DIAMOND COMPANY TENABLE IN JWANENG MINE

Job Summary:

•To provide hospital mortuary service and assist in waste management and patient care

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• O’levels, BGCSE or equivalent
• One (1) year experience in a hospital environment or funeral parlour

KEY EFFECTIVENESS AREAS

• Recommends and incorporates cost saving initiatives into budgets
• Receives, shrouds and labels corpses as per the procedure
• Assists the Pathologist during a post mortem by:
-Preparing corpses and instruments for postmortem.
-Surgically opening and closing corpse
-Cleaning up the corpse
• Escorts corpse for external post mortem
• Issues corpse to family or other authorized party and maintain a register according to procedure
• Monitors efficacy of mortuary fridges by checking the functionality of the cabinets and fridge temperatures takes corrective action within the scope or reports the deviations to the relevant authority
• Maintains the mortuary inventory, investigates deviations and escalates where necessary
• Prepares for Plaster of Paris (POP) application
• Removes Plaster of Paris as directed by the clinician
• Weighs and maintains records of all waste intended for incineration i.e clinical and sharps waste according to legal and regulatory requirements
• Monitors maintain and orders and issues medical gases for the hospital in compliance to the gas bank requirements
• Performs general housekeeping duties within the scope as directed by the supervisor
• Cleans and disinfects mortuary, clinical waste equipment and storeroom
• Takes cognizance, adheres to hospital policies, procedures and initiatives regarding customer services
• Adheres to safety, health and environmental programs in the area of responsibility
