Interim Chief Information Officer

Introduction

Our client is a substantive international Diamond Miner seeking a highly skilled and experienced Interim Chief Information Officer (CIO) with a proven track record.  This will be for a contract period to be agreed on initially being between 6 and 12 months that may be extended.  This CIO will be tasked with recommending executive technology decisions on behalf of the company, draft an IT strategy aligned to the business strategy and give input into making ICT investments and to align the company with its vision to fully digitalise the organization.  The candidate must be an expert in ERP SAP platforms and preferably in working for mining companies.  The candidate will report to the CFO and be based in Gaborone Botswana.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Setting and selling a vision for how technology will be used in the company and developing a technology strategy from this that is aligned to the company’s business plan.
• From this strategy define the appropriate Technology Architecture, Data Architecture and Visible MIS dashboards on video screens, etc.
• Creating timelines for the development and deployment of all technological projects and have a track record of delivering IT projects on time and within budget.
• Acting as a mentor to IT team members.
• Staying on top of appropriate IT technology trends and developments.
• Willing and able to learn advanced diamond mining – some precision detection of diamonds in the excavation phase of mining and other specialist mining bespoke technology.
• Ensuring all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards.
• Must have extensive exposure to office automation and Executive Productivity to improve how efficient the Executive and HOD can utilize ICT as the company have Botswana, Canada and London offices and the mining operations in Botswana.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Degree degree in Computer Science or related field.
• MBA preferred or technology industry related certification.
• 6 years working in a technological role in mining with good knowledge of SAP and ERP systems.
• 5 years’ managerial experience in a senior IT position.
• Advanced technological skill set and a demonstrated history with technology.
• Exceptional team management skills.

• Willing to travel between Gaborone and the mining fields.
• Ability to manage staff across long distances.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to delegate efficiently but comfortable to get his/her hands dirty.
• Extensive ERP industry knowledge, preferable with experience in SAP and able to do ERP upgrades like S4HANA
• Not an 8 to 5 person.
• A doer, can do person and someone that gets the job done irrespective of the odds.
• Someone that does not accept the status quo and who has a passion for business re-engineering and improvement of processes.
