Job Summary

To protect Company assets and human life from fire hazards

Minimum Requirements

• O’Levels plus Firemanship Certificate
• Minimum of 3 years in firefighting environment

Pre-appointment Training

• BasicSHEtrainingcourses
• Basic first aid training with valid certificate
• Driving License (Class C) plus Fire Pump Operator Certificate

Key Effectiveness Areas

• Recommends and incorporates cost saving initia­tives into budgets
• Responds to fire incidents and other emergency incidents within Mine lease areas and surround­ing villages and provides firefighting support ser­vices to preserve lives and property damage
• Conducts tests and inspections on: workplace, firefighting equipment, fire breaks, emergency equipment, Fire suppression and detection sys­tem to ensure everything is in a functional state at all times.
• Conducts and implements evacuation drills and emergency simulations for designated areas/in Mine lease areas and advise on learnings
• Compiles information on firefighting equipment around the Mine to ensure up to date inventory
• Conducts fire awareness training to Debswana Mines employees, stakeholders and the commu­nity in order to build capacity and/or raise aware­ness
• Performs recharging of Fire extinguishers and recharging/testing of breathing apparatus in line with legal requirements
• Drives and operates fire pumps and ambulances at start of the shift or during emergencies
• Implements a schedule of evacuation drills and emergency simulations for respective areas
• Conducts inspections on airport runway before air­craft take-off and landing, and ensures the safety of the area – (Airport coverage)
• Controls, cleans fuel spillage and hazardous ma­terial to ensure proper management and disposal
• Ensures the safety and security of the emergency area as per first response requirements, provides first aid to casualties and preserves evidence.
• Adheres to all Safety, Health, Environmental and corporate governance principles, policies and pro­cedures in area of responsibility.
