Business Development Director – Okavango Diamond Company (ODC)

Okavango Diamond Company (ODC), is a rough diamond marketing company, offering its global customers access to scale supply of rough diamonds from Botswana. ODC is a principal global supplier to the sector selling the largest source of guaranteed Botswana production in the diamond industry. The organisation has a challenging opportunity in the Executive Management team for an individual with a strong background in business development and management, who is driven by a passion for excellence, to take on the position of Business Development Director.

JOB PURPOSE

Accountable to the Managing Director, the role is responsible for overseeing the Commercial and IT departments of ODC and for identifying and developing new medium and long-term business opportunities.

THE JOB

The incumbent will be responsible for. among others, the following:

• Contributing to the development of ODC’s corporate strategy and business plans.
• Developing, advising and implementing the Commercial. Business Development and IT strategies ensuring alignment to ODC’s overall corporate objectives.
• Assessing the risk environment with respect to. IT and Commercial processes, as well as. managing key risks.
• Identifying, analysing and where possible developing business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
• Recommending new products, initiativesand services in conjunction with the Executive Committee.
• Budgeting and resource management for responsible functions.
• Sponsorship and management of selected Strategic and Operational ODC projects.

THE PERSON

The right candidate will possess the following:

• A Business/Commerce related Degree, plus an appropriate Executive Development Programme.
• Demonstrable experience in overseeing projects from conception to delivery.
• 10 to 15 years’ of managerial or strategic decision making experience, including substantive experience operating at a senior level.
• Knowledge of the whole value chain of the local and international diamond industry will be an added advantage.
