REGISTRAR
The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal was established following a review of the Competition Act, 2009 and the Consumer Protection Act 1998. The review provided for establishing the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal, a quasi-judicial body which Is responsible for adjudication over competition and consumer protection matters in accordance with the Competition and Consumer Protection Acts of 2018. The Tribunal is independent and impartial, and performs its functions without fear, favour or prejudice.
The Tribunal is looking for Its Registrar who will provide administrative and judicial/legal support services to ensure the proper functioning of the Tribunal. The Registrar will report to the President of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal. S/he Is the Secretariat of the Tribunal responsible for planning, directing, managing and coordinating successful enforcement of the Competition Act 2018 and Consumer Protection Act 2018, which were enacted to regulate competition and protection of consumers in the economy. The general functions of the Registrar are set out In Section 62 (7) of the Competition Act. 2018. The Registrar is responsible for all legal and administrative work, for the assessment and collection of contributions, and for the administration of the accounts and finances of the Tribunal. The Registrar is the regular channel of communications to and from the Tribunal, keeps the List of cases, and keeps copies of communications and agreements as required by the Rules.
The Key Results Areas (KRAs) Include:providing sound timely advice. Judicial and legal administration, developing and updating policies / procedures / rules: managing performance and resources.
Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- A minimum of a bachelor in law degree or equivalent from a recognized university:
- A master’s degree in competition law or relevant field will be an added advantage.
- Evidence of at least fourteen (14) years post-degree legal experience in the public, private or parastatal sector as an attorney or advocate.
- Evidence of at least two (2) years working experience at the level of deputy registrar or equivalent
- Current admission to practice in the courts of Botswana
- Experience as a judicial officer will be an added advantage.
Key skills: Interpersonal, mediation and negotiation, problem-solving, management and supervision.
