VENTILATION AND BACKFILL SUPERINTENDENT WANTED AT KHOEMACAU COPPER MINING

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY WITH KHOEMACAU COPPER MINING FOR VENTILATION AND BACKFILL SUPERINTENDENT

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Chief Mining Engineer, you will be charged with overseeing all ventilation activities, Ventilation planning and monitoring. Dust control / air quality and ensuring compliance with international best practices and regulatory codes. You will also be required to oversee underground infrastructure and backfilling activities as and when required.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be responsible for:

• Coordinating, managing, and developing all requirements of the role of Ventilation Officer (MQMW CAP 44.02 regulation 15(1)) and the contractor’s team of ventilation engineers;
• Complying with, auditing and reviewing the site Ventilation Management Plan;
• Ensuring that ventilation surveys (both primary and secondary), audits, underground safety inspections and task observations are completed;
• Ensuring that the primary ventilation systems (including air cooling) and secondary ventilation systems are adequately managed to ensure that sufficient airflow and cooling capacity is provided to the underground mine and working areas to meet statutory and/or international standards for safe underground work environments;
• Coordinating and managing the development of scopes of works for underground infrastructure establishment and extension including power (HV backbone), dewatering, mine services (compressed air, mine water, dewatering), ventilation, backfill infrastructure, monitoring systems, and communication systems as required;
• Ensuring that an up to date ventilation model is maintained and always available; and

Other areas of responsibility (future backfill):

• Managing and coordinating the design of and construction works for the backfill reticulation system;
• Coordinating between backfill plant and mining operations to meet a backfill schedule that satisfies the mine s production requirements;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

• Degree or Equivalent in Occupational Hygiene
• Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control is essential
• Minimum of 15 years’ practical experience in supervising Mine ventilation, backfill and construction activities;
• Advanced user level of VentSim computer software;
• Deswik mine design software experience highly preferred; and
• Proven people management skills, including a willingness and ability to effectively communicate and transfer skills and understanding;
