CAREER DEVELOPMENT COUNSELLOR REF: SA 21/01

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To drive the University’s strategic theme of academic quality and student reputation and ensuring student’s high performance through: Career counselling, career guidance and career development planning.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: At least Master in Educational Psychology, Masters in Career Counselling or related field from a recognised institution.

Experience: At least five (5) year’s post-qualification experience in a higher education institution. Should be licensed to practice by the Botswana Health Professional Council.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Develop a general knowledge and understanding of career opportunities related to courses and programmes offered by BIUST.

• Keep abreast of the graduate employment market and the requirements of key recruiters.

• Develop links with employers through collaboration with internal stakeholders such as; Faculties, the Directorate of International Linkages and Partnerships, and the Directorate of Communications and Public Affairs. As well as participating industry Advisory Boards.

• Guide students on career choices by creating awareness on job/career opportunities
• Develop, coordinate facilitates and present special career counselling in collaboration with schools.
• Conduct job readiness activities and initiatives for enrolled students through Job search Strategies, CV preparation, applications, psychometric testing and interview training.
• Review academic records as required for students with academic difficulties and/or challenges as well as advice on interventions.
