Applications are invited from highly motivated and well experienced candidates for the position of Director in the Ministry of Basic Education (Department of Technical Services) on a contract of 24-36 months.
SALARY:
E1 (P442,392 – P460, 296 per annum)
LEAVE:
30 Working Days Per Annum
BENEFITS:
- Optional Medical Aid Scheme with the Botswana Public Officers Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS- Government pays 50% and employee pays 50%). However, in the event the applicant has been subscribing to other Medical Aid Schemes besides BPOMAS an option to continue membership with respective Medical Schemes will be allowed. Government undertakes to contribute an amount equivalent to the position that the employee would have been entitled to under BPOMAS.
- For new entrants to the public service, a contract of 24 – 36 months with gratuity payable at the rate of 30% upon the expiry of contract.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Architecture/ Quantity Survey or related field. A Master’s Degree in Degree in Engineering/Architecture/Quantity Survey or any other related field will be a distinct advantage. Registration with a professional body is required.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of sixteen (16) years relevant work experience with a good track record of successful project delivery. The applicant should have served as Deputy Director on E2 salary scale in Government for at least two (2) years, or equivalent position in the Private Sector and Parastatal Organization. Understanding of FIDIC suite of contracts or working knowledge of contracts management is required.
MAIN PURPOSE OFTHE JOB:
To coordinate, direct and oversee design and building as well as engineering related services and maintenance of Government facilities.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Manage, implement and oversee planning, design, construction and maintenance functions of government building and associated infrastructure development.
- Interpret and implement government policy on Building and Engineering related services
- Implement Government building projects and maintenance programmes in accordance with the set standards.
- Give input on setting of building standards through Building Regulations Board to guide implementation in accordance with acceptable standards.
- Liaise with other Ministries to ensure that development projects are implemented satisfactorily.
- Develop strategic plan for the implementation of the Government building and engineering programme.
- Provide technical advice to the Ministry as required for the development of policy.
- Advise the Ministry on technical matters regarding project status, progress, and resources allocated for informed decision making.
- Liaise with Divisional Heads to ensure that key performance areas identified by the Division are in line with Department’s strategic goals.
- Oversee generic administration and management duties of the Department.
- Lead the preparation of Departmental budgets estimates
- Authorize and manage expenditure of the Department.
- Drive capacity development initiatives/programs in the Department.
- Lead performance improvement and change management initiatives.
- Undertake any other related duties as required to meet the exigencies of the service.
