SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Barminco is one of the world’s largest hard-rock underground mining service providers with over three decades of international experience. As part of the Perenti Group, Barminco employs over 4,300 people, at 22 projects in seven countries. In line with an opportunity that has presented itself in our Botswana operations, we are seeking applications from qualified and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. The position will be based at Gaborone.

POSITION TITLE: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant Is responsible for completing all financial reports and accounts required by management and local statutory bodies to ensure that the company complies with all Its reporting requirements.

This position reports to the Finance and Admin Manager In Gaborone, with Indirect reports to the Group Finance Mana, er, Botswana Operations Manager and Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities of Position:

Responsible for all accounting activities of the project In Botswana Including the following:

• Accounts preparation – reconcile balance sheets, the general ledger and AP/AR
• Supervise AP staff to ensure timely payments to suppliers
• Assistance with yearend external audit
• Preparation of monthly payroll
• Preparation and submission of all monthly and yearly BURS returns Including VAT, WHT, OWHT, and CMS.
• Financial analysis and review

• Management reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual reports)
• Delivering statutory financial statements and reports
• Working to deadlines for the monthly and annual reports
• Ensuring compliance with all other regulatory requirements

Relevant Experience:

• Significant previous experience In a similar senior accounting role
• Relevant Honours or Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent)
• Professional Accounting Qualification (ACCA/CIMA/CA)

• 6-8 years of relevant experience

• Thorough knowledge and understanding with proven track record of statutory accounting requirements
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and standards

• Knowledge of Botswana taxation legislation
• Strong English communication language skills
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Experienced with a large ERP/Accounting software and reporting tool (e.g. Pronto/Sap)
• Information security – appreciate the Importance of securing commercial and confidential information.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
