MALE IMSAFER INSTRUCTORS (x32 positions) – Scripture Union Botswana

Scripture Union Botswana is a Christian faith-based non-denominational organization founded in 1968, working in partnership with churches, schools and other stakeholders nationally to positively impact on children and youth people.

Scripture Union will be implementing the IMsafer Sexual Violence Prevention Curriculum in Serowe, Bobirwa and North East. IMsafer is an ‘evidence informed’ violence prevention approach that is adapted from IMPOWER, and is a safer alternative during the COVID-19 epidemic. IMsafer is a dual-gender program that teaches girls to set boundaries, stand up and defend themselves and boys to challenge rape culture, ask for consent and intervene in attacks.

IMsafer present an exciting opportunity to a self-driven and self-motivated young man to apply for the position below;

POSITION: MALE IMSAFER INSTRUCTORS – 32 positions tenable in the following districts; Serowe- 12, Bobirwa-10, North East-10

IMsafer Instructors will first go through an intensive 4-week training to learn the proven IMsafer approach of violence prevention, intervention and recovery

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• To implement IMsafer, the evidence-based child safety and violence prevention program in selected districts.
• Available for a 3 weeks full time training from May 28 – June 18 2021 and regular delivery of the program with youth beginning immediately after the training.
• Contribute to the development of a comprehensive referral network of prevention and after care resources and providers i.e. medical, legal and social.
• Conduct basic M&E and report as scheduled to SU and host district structures.
• Liaise with local child safety, gender-based violence organizations, stakeholders, government sources and schools for effective implementation of the programme
• Participate in scheduled performance review meetings for all instructors (virtually or in person)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Completed BGCSE (Form 5)- Certificate or more will be an added advantage
• Experience working in the field of Gender Based Violence (ideal)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

• Good listener & communicator in both English and local language(s)
• Ability and passion to be a positive role model for boys (coaching and mentoring skills)
• Passionate about the rights of women and children
• Facilitation skills- comfortable leading or facilitating group and individual learning
• Leadership qualities (Critical thinking, Humility, Honesty, Determination, Flexibility)
• Community organizing skills
• Basic skills in the use of computer or tablet (MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint) would be an added advantage
