Herding 4 Health Implementation Manager – WildCAT Botswana Trust

The WildCAT Botswana Trust, a local affiliate of WildCRU, is seeking a passionate and dedicated team member to join our effort in securing a better livelihood for rural livestock farmers in Chobe. We conduct large-predator research and coexistence projects across northern Botswana, focusing on the connectivity of wildlife between protected areas and the impact this has on people and livelihoods in close proximity to these areas. We have been working with community partners in the Chobe Enclave for the last six years, and our latest endeavour is to implement a Herding 4 Health livestock management system in the Chobe Enclave. This will help farmers realise better livestock husbandry, veterinary care, rangeland management and market access goals.

Job Requirements

• Good organisation skills and 2 years project management experience.
• Excellent knowledge of livestock veterinary and husbandry practices.
• Driving licence and at least 2 years driving experience required, 4×4 driving experience an advantage.
• Fluent speaking and written English and Setswana.
• Ability to plan, lead and budget small and medium sized projects.
• Flexible and professional attitude to work.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly with rural stakeholders.
• Knowledge and/or experience of the principals of holistic, One Health systems and/or Herding 4 Health an advantage.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

• Full time based in the Chobe Enclave, Chobe District.
• Oversee the implementation of a novel livestock husbandry system across 5 villages in the Chobe Enclave.
• Promote a community-led mindset change.
• Oversee livestock committees and livestock management systems.
• Keep and report accurate records and reports.
• Work closely with our Community Education Officer to deliver aligned information to all stakeholders.
• This is a field-based job with an emphasis on working directly with our stakeholders, and balancing office time for necessary reporting.
