FRUITS & VEGETABLES BUYER

LOCATION: Sefalana Fresh Produce (Pty) Ltd
INDUSTRY: FMCG / Retail / Fresh Produce Procurement
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. Lead procurement of high-quality fruits and vegetables from local and regional suppliers.
b. Conduct continuous supplier assessments to ensure best pricing, quality, and reliability.
c. Monitor market trends, seasonal availability, and commodity pricing to make informed buying decisions.
d. Ensure accurate forecasting and stock planning to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.
e. Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, growers, and fresh-produce distributors.
f. Drive cost-saving initiatives, negotiate contracts, and optimize procurement processes.
g. Collaborate with QC, warehouse, and commercial teams to ensure smooth supply, efficient handling, and adherence to quality standards.
h. Resolve supply issues promptly and ensure consistent availability of all key produce lines.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

a. Minimum 5 years’ experience in fresh produce procurement, merchandising and Sales in Distribution Centres
b. Strong understanding of produce quality standards, grading, and shelf-life management.
c. Extensive network of local and regional growers and suppliers (advantageous).
d. Strong negotiation, analytical, and vendor-management skills.
e. Ability to work in a fast-paced FMCG environment with changing market conditions.
f. Results-driven, detail-oriented, and committed to quality, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
