ASSISTANT POWER TECHNICIAN (5 Year Contract & tenable in Francistown)

Reporting to the Power and Mechanical Services Engineer, the incumbent will assist engineers in planning, operating and maintaining power, cooling, and environmental monitoring systems at BoFiNet telecommunication sites to ensure maximum system availability and efficiency.

Key performances areas

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on power back up systems.

• Support engineers in implementing maintenance schedules.

• Maintain and update maintenance records.

• Ensure telecommunication sites environmental monitoring systems are operational.

• Attend to telecommunication sites power systems alarms and perform necessary corrective maintenance.

• Support diagnostics and troubleshooting efforts on-site.

• Conduct equipment replacements and minor repairs.

• Diagnose, service, repair and maintain standby and portable generators.

• Assist in the commissioning of new power systems and equipment.

Skills/Technical Abilities

• Power Backup: Knowledge in planning, maintenance and operation of Power backup systems.

• Maintenance Execution: Knowledge and understanding of general Electrical, Generators and cooling systems maintenance execution.

• Solar Power Systems: Knowledge and understanding of planning, maintenance and operation of Solar Power Systems.

• Network operations: Knowledge and understanding of telecommunications network operations

• Power Rectification: Knowledge and understanding of rectifiers, UPS and inverters and battery maintenance.

• Diesel Generators: Knowledge and understanding of operations and maintenance of Standby and portable generators.

Qualifications & Experience

The candidates should have attained the following:

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or related field.

• Additional qualification in the operation and maintenance of Diesel Generators will be an added advantage.

• Full Membership of a recognized professional body e.g. ERB.

• Minimum of Three (3) years post qualification experience one of which must be in the telecommunications industry.
