The National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB) is a body corporate established under the provisions of the National Arts Council of Botswana Act, No. 10 of 2020. The Council’s mandate is to develop, promote and protect the creative and cultural sector of Botswana through policy, legislation, industry facilitation and various partnerships, programmes, grants and initiatives. The Council aims to transform the local creative and cultural sector by nurturing creative excellence and preserving the nation’s rich cultural traditions with the ultimate goal of building an inclusive, sustainable and prosperous sector.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To ensure that the Council complies with all applicable data protection laws, such as the Data Protection Act and other relevant regulations. This role involves overseeing data protection processes, ensuring that personal data is processed lawfully, and serving as the main point of contact for regulatory authorities and data subjects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Council complies with all applicable data protection laws and regulations.
  • Monitor data processing activities to ensure compliance with legal obligations.
  • Develop and maintain data protection policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Provide expert advice to the Council on data protection matters, including privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and legal requirements.
  • Conduct regular training sessions to increase staff awareness of data protection and privacy practices.
  • Guide departments on data privacy issues related to new projects, systems, or technologies.
  • Reduced data breaches and efficient and effective response/resolution time.
  • Efficient response to data subject access requests (DSARs).
  • Timeliness in reviewing and updating data protection policies to align with legal changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Information Security, Data Management, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications would be an added advantage. E.g;
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E or equivalent).
  • Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ post qualification experience.
  • Experience in data protection, privacy law, or compliance.
  • Familiarity with Data Protection Act and Regulations and other data protection regulations.
  • Knowledge of data protection principles and best practices.
