Location: Gaborone, South East, Botswana

To ensure proper specimen collection from patients by adhering to health and safety standards as per the Clinical Laboratory Manual as well as proper specimen preparation prior to analysis so as to yield accurate results.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following: –
i)To ensure adherence to the Laboratory Services Manual protocols for handling, labelling, and documenting specimens.
ii)Ensure that proper specimen receipt procedures have been adhered to and that requested tests are properly logged into the laboratory information management system
iii)Collect specimens from the wards and other sections of the Hospital.
iv)Maintain accurate complete records of specimens collected, received, processed, and stored.
v)Prioritize urgent/ stat samples to ensure standard turn-around-times are met.
vi)Operate and perform daily, weekly and monthly preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment as per the manufacturer’s instructions and or recommendations.
vii)To ensure preparation and delivery of specimens to the appropriate laboratory sections
viii)To perform venipuncture on paediatric/ neonatal patients
ix)To adhere to policies relating to the handling of contaminated blood and infection control to ensure safety for both patients and staff
x)Responsibility for ensuring phlebotomy equipment is kept clean and in a safe manner
xi)To ensure compliance with relevant Health and Safety procedures as detailed in the Clinical Laboratory Manual at all times.
xii)Ensure adherence to safety and infection control procedures.
xiii)To prepare and package samples for transportation to referral laboratories and ensure that all procedures to be followed when sending samples to referral laboratories are adhered to.
xiv)Prepare management Reports as required

Requirements
Education

Certificate in Phlebotomy or equivalent qualifications

Experience
i)At least 1 year working experience in Private hospital
ii)Exposure in bleeding neonates and paediatric patients is an added advantage.
