Senior Medical Transcriptionist
– OPTIMUM HEALTH MEDICAL LABORATORY

ROLE SUMMARY:

• Medical language specialist who interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and pathologists regarding patient workup, procedures, clinical course, diagnosis and prognosis etc in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of quality healthcare services.
• Prepare documents by using transcription equipment and word processing software and apply knowledge of orthopaedic, radiology, podiatry and medical terminology.
• Edits documents by recognizing discrepancies and inaccuracies in dictation.
• Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering and sorting transcription tapes and written instructions.
• Determine format and content by following written or dictated instructions.
• Stores completed documents by entering documents in medical records
• Participates in the development and implementation of Quality Management Systems

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Approved Certificate/ Diploma in medical transcription, medical billing, coding, healthcare administration or related field.
• Bachelors Degree in the related field will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of terminology used in anatomy, physiology, diagnostic, medicine, pharmacology and other medical specialities will be an added advantage.
• Understanding of KD10 coding and terminology.
• Ability to use designated reference material.
• At least 5 years’ experience in a related field.
• Previous exposure to the Clinical Laboratory environment.
• Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 15189-2012)
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
