Job Title: Life & Health Reinsurance Technical Officer
Location: FBC Re Botswana
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and executing reassurance strategies for the Life and Health department.
- Developing strategies that minimize the company’s exposure to non-performing risks.
- Developing marketing activities directed at enhancing the growth of the company in line with set targets.
- Maintaining knowledge of the regional market and keeping abreast of new developments, products/opportunities and relationship management activities.
- Evaluating and accepting profitable business from the region and Botswana Local market Preparation of management and regulatory statistical reports periodically.
- Ensuring acceptance of business within the capital boundaries of the company.
- Working closely with the company’s compliance and Actuarial functions.
- Developing and negotiating the company’s optimum Life retrocession programs with reputable Retrocessionaires.
- Designing, developing and reviewing of Life and Health products inline with the market demands.
- Providing efficient and quality client servicing through effective claims underwriting and management.
- Ensuring that departmental systems, including computer-based systems are running smoothly at all times.
- Ensuring that reports and records representing the state of affairs in the department are up to date and available all the time.
- Working closely with other supporting departments for combined efforted marketing and business development initiatives.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in risk management and insurance from a reputable University or related Business Degree.
- A master’s degree in risk management and insurance or a candidate currently pursuing completion of an MSc in Risk Management and Insurance is an added advantage.
- Certification from a reputable insurance body such as the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA), the Insurance Institute of Botswana (IIB) or the Chartered Insurance Institute UK (CII) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years in Reinsurance life underwriting, with demonstrable expertise in complex risk assessment, Re-insurance structuring and pricing.
- Knowledge or Experience in working with Life Underwriting Manuals.
- Leadership skills, including the ability to manage risk, and control activities for a highly technical department.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Deep and detailed understanding of business, strategy and culture.
- Knowledge of the regional regulatory environment and key regulatory regimes.
- Good analytical and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of international underwriting practice and risk management standards.
